James the Solar Cooker

We designed our solar cooker by covering a box with black paper to absorb heat from the sides. We put a hole in the top of the box but covered the hole in cling wrap to block out insects, etc. We completely covered the inside with multiple layers of foam and aluminum foil to keep the heat inside the box. We named the box James.

James worked fairly well. The cheese melted, mostly. We even reached about 64°, which is pretty good.

I think that it absorbed heat well enough for the cheese to melt a little, but it couldn't contain the heat for very long.

I think that we could have made our solar cooker contain heat a bit better, because the temperature dropped quickly when it was taken out of the sun, which shows that the heat escaped quickly. Though, the heat was absorbed into the box well as long as it was outside.
